Ileocecal Intussusception in an Adult: the Laparoscopic Approach

چکیده

Adult intussusception is uncommon and requires a surgical approach. Malignancy is associated with 31% (43/137) of small bowel intussusception and 70% (74/106) of large bowel intussusception. Computerized tomography (CT) findings are pathognomonic for this condition. Often, the patient presents with long-standing, nonspecific complaints. A 63-year-old man presented with sudden onset of abdominal pain. CT demonstrated colonic inflammation. A laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ileocecal intussusception was performed. The pathology report revealed a lipoma of the cecum. The postoperative course was uneventful, and he was discharged the fifth postoperative day. Despite a high incidence of malignancy, colonic or ileocecal intussusception can be successfully treated by laparoscopic resection. Review of the literature and treatment options are discussed.

Manual laparoscopy-assisted intraoperative reduction for adult ileocolic intussusception with ileal adenoma: A case report

INTRODUCTION Adult intussusception is a rare condition with a pathological lead point. Intraoperative reduction of adult intussusception can eliminate the need for extensive or invasive resection. We safely performed a manual laparoscopy-assisted intraoperative reduction that allowed functional preservation of tissue. PRESENTATION OF CASE A 70-year-old woman with dull right lumbar pain at reg...

Laparoscopic-assisted resection of ileal lipoma causing ileo-ileo-colic intussusception.

Adult intussusception is rare, and the majority of cases has an underlying cause that requires surgical resection. We report a case of a 39 yr-old man with ileo-ileo-colic intussusception caused by ileal lipoma that was successfully managed by a laparoscopic-assisted surgical maneuver. Using a three-cannula technique, ileo-colic intussusception was reduced laparoscopically. Then, through a 4-cm...

Laparoscopic Resection of Adult Small Bowel Intussuscepting Lipoma with Intracorporeal Anastomosis: A Case Report

Intussusception, derived from the Latin roots intu “within” and susceptio “action of undertaking,” is the invagination of segments of bowel creating an often-transient obstruction. Adult cases account for only 5% [1] of all gastrointestinal intussusception cases and are commonly attributed to the formation of a small bowel lipoma. Adult intussusception is a very rare occurrence with some estima...
